For Commercial Designers, the end of September is IIDEX time. This is a must go event held every year in Toronto. The Direct Energy Centre was the venue this year which we quite enjoy because it is so less stressful than going to the Metro Convention Centre (IIDEX are you reading this?)
Here are a some things that caught our eye…
The Bunkie…the next thing to hit cottage country? Maybe…it is unique in the sense that it is fully integrated solution to extra sleeping quarters, prefab and shipped IKEA style to a cottage near you. It is an interesting if not a too literal interpretation of a “house”. It will be curious to see where the Bunkie ends up.
Nu-Ovo…we all loved this beautiful skeletal egg…why? We wanted to work in it, have lunch in it and generally find somewhere to use it. This inspired design from the Italian furniture company Tisettanta gave us all kinds of ideas. It looks and feels good. It provides a sense of enclosure yet at the same time it is open and airy. Check out the company website (in Italian) for more information and to see more ways to dress up this Nu-Ovo…it’s hatching all kinds of ideas.
Glamping…a new word to us but oh so chic! Mason Studio teamed up with IIDEX to bring us the outdoors with an eye for what we enjoy in our indoor environments. Inflatable tufted sofas and chairs take camping to a whole new level. This vignette was very well done. Have no fear the bears are made of cardboard.
Sensitile…another fantastic exhibit. So many applications so little time. The beauty of a versatile product enhanced by LED…what more could an interior designer want?
We could go on…after all we live for this stuff but we need to keep some secrets to ourselves. Think you could use some cool design in your space…talk to us!
